Cyprus is the most southerly and is the third largest island in the
Mediterranean and ever since the first visitors arrived in
ancient times to worship Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, who,
according to legend, was born from the sea close to Paphos, this
beautiful island has been one of the most sought-after of holiday destinations.
Paphos in the southwest of the island (and approximately 5 kms from the
villa) is a wonderful holiday location in its own right. It is
also a perfect base from which to explore the many historical sites in
this area.
Traffic in Cyprus conveniently drives on the left hand side of the
road-just as we do in the UK. However you will find that the cost
of petrol is much lower!
In Roman times, Paphos was the capital of Cyprus and it is now rapidly
becoming one of the most popular holiday destinations on the island,
while still retaining its sleepy coastal town atmosphere.
Distance from Paphos in the southwest to
Cape Andreas in the northeast is 140 miles and from Cape Komakiti in the
north to Cape Gata in the south, is 65 miles. Please note that the
area above the red U.N. line is under Turkish control but is now
partially accessible under certain conditions.
Cyprus boasts around 340 days of sunshine
per year and once you have experienced the clear blue, pollution free
skies, the amazing sunsets and the genuinely warm welcome from one of
the friendliest nations on the planet, we are sure that like us, you too
will fall in love with this most beautiful of islands!
